Overview

About me

Hi, my name is Milena and I try to stay curious. Curiosity is also what got me interested in Psychology. I really wanted to understand why we are the way we are. And, up to this day, this is still the thing that fills me with the most zest for life. Small or big, I've always wanted to know why our brain does what it does, why we think and feel in certain ways, why we see the world the way we do and what purpose our body serves in all of that. I sought to make sense of how much the family we grow up in, the places that surround us or the community we belong to matter to who we are. What's our place among other people; what about among other animals or plants? What brings us closer, what divides us and what makes us be ourselves? My search is far from over, but I learn new stuff every day. And I try to use it in my work. I became a therapist because I really believe that every human being deserves a good life. And I also believe that, even though there are a couple of things that matter for a good life, one's relationships to oneself and to others are essential. This is why I want to help people develop 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 – both with themselves and with others. I try to guide them to walk through life consciously, with their eyes open. And, to the extent it's possible, I seek to create a space in which they can become more of who they really are. What does that look like in therapy? • Let's understand the way you've lived so far, in order to find out why you are the way you are. What did you learn about yourself, about others and about what really matters to you? What makes you act the way you do? What blocks from doing things differently? • What happens to you when you go through difficult stuff? • How can you care for your pain? How can you stand by your side when facing life's hardships? • If you were able to live a life rich in personal meaning, what would that look like? Therapy is indeed about soothing suffering, but it's also about learning how to live more and more in ways that truly move us. In my therapy practice, I really value working with evidence-based approaches. I try to do my work with understanding, curiosity, warmth, and also a bit of humour. The main therapeutic modalities I use are acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), schema therapy and functional-analytic psychotherapy (FAP). Together, we can talk about: • What you can do with certain feelings, such as anxiety (should it be generalized, social, performance, health or panic), depression, anger, shame, guilt, hopelessness, and, of course, everything that comes along with it (e.g. difficult thoughts, your reactions etc.) • Attachment and relationships: 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 (who you are, who you'd like to be, how you can get closer to yourself) and 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 (how would you like to show up in your relationships? what are you needs? how do you cultivate quality connections? what blocks you?) • How you can change certain behaviors (e.g. eating problems, substance use, the way you manage your time, the way you handle pain or difficult moments, how you communicate certain things) and how you can motivate yourself to do things differently. • How you can 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑖𝑡 and what you want to move towards in life. Because every person is unique, each therapeutic journey will be different and tailored to your specific needs. I seek to create a therapeutic space that's trauma-informed and friendly towards both the LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse communities. I try to affirm and celebrate diversity, as I'm aware that there are more things that unite us than those that divide us. I am constantly learning from my clients and am truly glad I am able to do this kind of work. On a professional level, I am currently reading a lot about creating solid relationships and healthy sexual connections. In my personal life, I like to remind myself to slow down and actually put all the stuff I preach into practice (not always easy, but definitely worth it when it works). Besides satisfying my curiosity, which I mentioned in the beginning of my description, I also spend my time consuming and creating different forms of art. I appreciate visual arts, music and dancing. I like to move my body and I need to laugh often and much.
