I’m also constantly engaged in practicing and learning how to apply psychotherapeutic principles that respect our dynamic and holistic selves. I thus use specific guidelines from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to create a revitalizing and flexible relationship with ourselves when we are caught in vicious cycles, and elements from Functional-Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP) to build healthy relationships with others that take our needs into account. If you’re thinking about seeing a psychologist, it’s likely because you’re dealing with an issue you’ve tried to resolve in many ways without much success. Together, we’ll take a closer look at the present and how your repeated attempts to rigidly control your life often lead to a narrowing of your perspective and a loss of meaning. You’ll learn to better see how all the “parts” of your self are connected, and you’ll come to respect its constant changes. We will move beyond the labels that the mind inflexibly applies to discover together what is truly important to you. And since awareness is only the first step, I will be by your side as you consistently choose small steps toward the moments and things that bring you meaning, satisfaction, and life. I believe that the moments that arise during a session reflect life outside of it, including the difficulties you bring to therapy. This gives us direct opportunities to observe and address what hurts—that is, what matters. These are often two sides of the same coin. The fact that you avoid showing your loved ones your true self stems from your concern for your relationship with them and how important it is not to lose them. Isolation and a loss of energy after a difficult event signal the need for a break so you can mentally reorganize yourself to see what is truly important right now. And your concern about how you can transform these experiences—the care with which you approach therapy—points me toward valuable insights and activities you haven’t engaged with in some time. We can take steps toward them! My sessions are always a collaborative, empathetic process guided by what is helpful for you. We work with courage, delving into difficult places, always returning to what is happening in the present, and sincerely acknowledging every step forward.
